JOURNALS: Students will compile a journal consisting of two entries per week beginning in week four and continuing through week thirteen. Each entry will consist of a single-spaced page in an 8.5" x 11" spiral-bound notebook containing a summary of the article, selection or chapter read and a personal response to that material. Each week two entries will be based upon readings selected from this web page The journal grade will count equally with the major essay grades. All journal entries will be written in ink, single-spaced, on one side of the page. Be sure to put the title of the article, date, and entry number at the top of the page. Journals will be reviewed three times during the semester, at the teacher's discretion.

Reading Journal

I. In addition to the journal writing assignments in the book, as part of the

requirements for this class, you will keep a reading journal. A reading journal is a response to a particular work that you have read. You must read the assigned story, and write a response to it through your journals using the guidelines below. No late journal will be accepted.

Guidelines

Keeping a Reading Journal

1. After you read, write a journal explaining what you learned from the assigned reading and your impression of the reading.

2. Write a brief summary of the reading. Next, write down a brief response to the reading. What did the essay make you think or feel? Explain why you could or could not relate to what the author described.

3. Your instructor may assign additional topics .
