Assignment Code: 3218SCORE2
Due Date: Thursday of Week 4
See Deadlines for Students for the current date code.

Assignment 3 is to generate one part (any part except flute; pick one with notes in it) from the first page of Haydn's Symphony No. 104 in D Major:
  1. Open your Finale file containing page one of the Haydn score.
  2. Under "File," go to "Extract Parts" and you will see the "Extract Parts dialog box."
  3. Under "Staves," pick one of the instruments that are playing in measures 1-4.
  4. Under "Music Layout," select "Apply Note Spacing."
  5. Under "File Names," you can have Finale name the files or you can have it prompt you for each name.
  6. Click "Page Format" and scale page to "100%."
    1. In Finale 2000, under "First Staff System," the "Drop" should be a negative number, probably "-2.5." Click "OK."
    2. In Finale 2002 and newer, under "First Staff System Margin," the ""Top" margin should be a positive number, probably 3.1875 by default. The "Distance from Top" is zero by default. Click "OK."
  7. Click "Options. . ." and under "Items to Remove," select only "Single Page Text Blocks and Graphics (Page 2+)" and "Staff or Group Names." Under "Part Names," Select "Create Staff or Group Name Header." Set H: (horizontal) to zero. Set V (vertical) to "-0.6" to keep the part name from colliding with the long title. Click "OK." Click "OK" again.
  8. By default, the staff will appear at 100% on your part. In Finale 2002 and older, the page size of the score was less than 100%, other items, such as text blocks (title, composer and page number) will appear bigger on the part. You may need to adjust them so that they do not extend beyond the page margins.
  9. If you need help using Finale, please drop by Dr. Leinberger's office during office hours or make an appointment. Also, some questions can be answered through e-mail.
