Prior Updates:
Just a few updates to keep everyone informed about UTEP's continuing web changes:
  • The UTEP on the Web section of the Home Page was becoming full and very cluttered (we have alot going on here at UTEP!). That section has been internally categorized and re-organized to increase its usefulness. Thanks to the students who recommended this change!
  • There are some upcoming changes to the UTEP web that you should be aware of:
    • The College of Health Sciences, the College of Business Administration, and the College of Sciences have asked the Department of Web Content to assist them in designing and implimenting a fresh new design for their home pages. We, as a department, look forward to the challenge. We will be taking comments and suggestions from you, the users of those sites, in order to make those sites more useful. Watch those pages in order to view our progress.
Email us at: webcontent@utep.edu in order to share your comments and suggestions.
    • The Department of Parking and Transportation has asked us to redo their entire site.  We are striving to have that completed so there will be minimal disruption to students, faculty and staff.
    • The Department of Web Content has begun work in conjunction with the Dean of Students and the Prospector in order to totally rebuild the current  Student Life web page. With the special assistance of students in Dr. Nigel Ward's Computer Science class, we will be making sweeping changes. The Department of Web Content often involves the classes of receptive professors in the process of web design in order to review web usability and to allow others to lend their ideas to our redesign efforts.   Professors: Contact us if your class might be interested in a 50,000 foot view of usability and to allow end users to "brain storm" with us.
  • It was called to my attention that a "rogue" UTEP Exam Schedule Page was floating around on the Internet. I tracked that elusive page down and found that some professors had bookmarked that page. If you have previously bookmarked a UTEP page that you depend on, check to ensure that the bookmark refers to a current and up-to-date UTEP page. If you find an old page floating around out there in the cyber-space, email us at webcontent@utep.edu so we can track it down and Zap it.
  • Several students and a concerned faculty member contacted us concerned with the difficulty of finding this semester's Exam Schedule. I personally took a look and found that it took me 20+ minutes to track that illusive link down. In order to fix the problem, I have:
    • Changed the "Academic Calendars" title to "Academic Calendars and Exam Schedules" and have combined both calendars and exam schedules on one page.
    • "Academic Calendars and Exam Schedules" link now exists on the Student Information Page, Faculty  & Staff Information Page and on the main page of Registration and Records.
    • "Academic Calendars and Exam Schedules" link now exists on the UTEP Home Page.
  • Until we have fully implemented our "University Wide" Calendaring System, University Communications has promised to keep the "Calendar of Events" which is found off the UTEP Home Page fully populated.  We expect our new Calendaring System to go live within two months or less.  Those interested in providing events for the public should watch this space for when we go live.  We will be giving entry access to certain areas of the University, and if things work out in test mode, will be opening that up to all areas which have University Centric public events that need to be posted.
  • The UTEP Dinner Theater  home page can now easily be accessed from the UTEP Home Page. They've done such a great job in the past, that they deserve to be front and center.  Check out the UTEP Holiday Spectacular.
  • The Department of Kinesiology has had its web site completely revamped to provide a new look, feel, and 'freshness'.  Check out their Department Slide Show and let us know if we can do that for your Department was well.
  • The Academic Programs page has been replaced with two new pages. One page lists programs in Alphabetical order, while the other lists programs by School & College.  (more enhancements are planned in the near future)
  • Did you know that UTEP has Medical School and Law School Preparation programs???  The left hand navigation on the Academic Programs page now includes links to the Law School Preparation Institute and  Medical School Preparation.
  • A Beta (test) site has been created in response to new employees needing to know about those strange and wonderful things that exist here in El Paso, such as taxes, car registration, and garbage pickup. This site will be enhanced to include employee recommendations for services, and will eventually contain a discussion board for employees to share information that would be helpful to each other. If  you can be kind, check out our Beta (not ready for prime time)  Employee Knowledge Bank. Email us at  webcontent@utep.edu for adding additional content.
  • The National Science Foundation Day at UTEP page has been updated to streamline and re-organize the data. This will facilitate the registration process for users.  Check out the National Science Foundation Day at The University of Texas at El Paso page.
  • The UTEP Home Page is updated at least twice a week with new items in the "What you need to Know" column.

Look forward to more changes as we gain momentum.
