Research Interests

My research interests include the uptake and translocation of inorganic elements within the transport system of vascular plants exposed to excess of heavy metals. Of major interest is the use of growth factors and chelating agents to enhance the metal translocation from the roots to the leaves and the effects produced on the whole-plant elemental accumulation. Another area of interest is the use of plant growth promoting bacteria for phytoremediation purposes. The long-term goals are to characterize plants useful for phytoremediation and to determine the biochemical/molecular signals associated to metal uptake. Methodologies utilized include the use of inductively coupled plasma/optical emission spectroscopy (ICP/OES), X-ray absorption spectroscopy and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
