Me
My name is Luis Carrera, I am currently a senior at the University of Texas at El Paso. My major is Business Administration and will possibly receive my Bachelors Degree in Accounting in May of 2003. I am pretty sure you are asking why would a Business Major be so interested in Special Effects, here is the story. In high school I took a course of graphic and web page design, not only that, but we went into Special Effects in movies. My dream before graduating from high school was to pursue a degree in graphic design, and hopefully with the right network I would be able to work making Special Effects for a major movie corporation. I graduated from high school and had doubts about going for a degree in graphic design. My friends, family, and peers all knew I was really good and loved graphic design and Special Effects, but it would be hard to land a good job in my hometown. In the city where I live there are not that many opportunities for graphic designers, and if there is, the pay is not so good. I am really close to my family and going away to work in another city would not work so well for me. I took my basics, and after my first year of college I had a major change of plans. I took a few business courses to satisfy my basics, and found out that there is a lot of opportunities for business majors. I decided to change my major from graphic design to Accounting. On my first year of college I met many people that were going into graphic design, special effects technicians, and other majors related to Special Effects. My network is there, a majority of them already graduated and have gone to work for the big movie companies. So this is me now, a senior in college graduating with a degree in Accounting very soon. While my degree will be in Accounting my dream job is still to become involved in Special Effects in movies somehow. I know that day will come. To this day I keep on practicing all my skills. I am now making CD covers for local bands and small businesses. But remember, nothing in this world is impossible. Go into a career and you will be happy for the rest of your life, if it is graphic design, special effects technician, or whatever career of interest to you, make sure it is one you love. |
