GRADUATE PLACEMENT TEST - MUSIC HISTORY
The test will evaluate two primary areas:
1) Your knowledge of the main trends in the history of music from the Middle Ages forward. You should know the style characteristics and the composers associated with each period.
2) Your ability to look at a music score and/or listen to a piece of music and discuss it intelligently with good English writing skills.
The test will consist of 3-4 large essay questions and an objective section (multiple choice, matching, true-false)
For review, any basic music history text should be fine. At the moment, UTEP is using Burkholder/Grout/Palisca History of Western Music for its undergraduate music history.
