Educational Reform

Compulsory education in Japan includes six years of elementary school and three years of lower secondary (jr. high school). Upper secondary (high school) runs three years and college four years.

Dr. Tsutomu Kimura, from the National Institution for Academic degrees and one of the main researchers behind the Japanese educational reform committee gave us an interesting lecture on Japanese reform efforts which will begin in 2002.
