     Since 1868 the capital of Japan has been Tokyo. Tokyo Metropolitan area is home to one-quarter of all Japanese.  Over 24.8% of the population in Japan lives in Tokyo and the surrounding prefectures. However, Tokyo is among the cleanest and safest cities in the world. It is an international magnet for business and powerhouse of creative energy, global influence and wealth, Tokyo offers visitors aspects of both the new and the old.
