Currently
I am a student at the University of Texas at El
Paso. I will be graduating on
December 16, 2000 with a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies in Elementary
Education. In January, I will begin
teaching in a fourth grade classroom. I
am excited and looking forward to it.
I
have always known that I wanted to be a teacher. There are several reasons I want to teach. First of all, I enjoy helping others learn
and discover new ideas. Another reason
is because I enjoy learning. Through
teaching my students, I will also be teaching myself. I don’t believe there is a point in anybody’s life when they have
mastered it all. Learning is a lifelong
process.
Another reason I have chosen the education field is to challenge students to think for themselves. For example, many people believe that what is printed in books is true. However, I want my students to be critical and to be able to distinguish between reliable sources and biased or poor sources. I want my students to question everything around them and to think things through thoroughly by looking at different sides to everything. By doing so, they will be encouraged to think for themselves.
I
hope to be the kind of teacher who has high expectations of all students and
who will allow them opportunities for meaningful and memorable learning that
they can apply outside the classroom.
Hobbies: outdoor activities, music, reading, walking.
