My name is Reyes Perez. I am working with Group 2 and our goal is to present a summary of Chapter 2 in the textbook, Just Beyond the Classroom by Clifford E. Knapp.I am senior pursuing a BIS in Elementary Education with a specialization in Math and a concentration in Science.
For me this will be my second career as I have already retired from the US Navy . The reason behind me going into elementary education is that I was advised to go into this field due to an interest and aptitude test I took and because I enjoy working with kids.
Ideally, I would
like to teach fourth through sixth grades because I feel that’s when children
are curious and eager to learn. I believe in the constructivist theory
of learning because children profit more from real world experiences when
they can apply what they have observed and internalized to their own immediate
world. One problem that I foresee in applying this method to a present
day classroom is time constraints because more time will be required to
teach the individual versus the whole class.
