Keeping a journal helps clarify ideas and improve the fluency of writing.  Though different teachers will have their own grading standards, in most cases, they do not edit spelling or grammar errors when evaluating journals.  Instead, a student’s journal entry will be evaluated on dedication and engagement.  

Each week you will  write a journal entry on your assigned reading in the books The Progressive Era. and Urban America.  This journal will be kept on your own Facebook Notes. You will NOT be reminded to do your journals; instead, keep in mind that you need to complete your journal assignment each week. Keep a journal as follows:

1. Page numbers or chapters read..

 

A. A paragraph of three to five sentences in which you describe, summarize, what you read..

B.. Then write a second short paragraph in which you comment on what you read..

C. Next, select at least three (3) new vocabulary words from the reading. Provide a dictionary definition of each word and then use the words in sentences of your own composition.(optional).

Separate the summary of the article, the commentary on the article, and the vocabulary section by using appropriate letters (A, B, C) and headings (summary, commentary, vocabulary).
