Weekly report alternatives:

1. Each week, read at least 15 pages in the most recent issue of a professional journal of your choice directly related to your major or intended field. E.g., if you hope to go into nursing, read a professional nursing journal. If you are going into business, read a professional business journal. If you are going into engineering, read an engineering journal. You may substitute a weekly podcast on the same professional subject if this is at least 30 minutes long.  Your report must state exactly what journal you read, what issue, what articles, and from what page to what page you read. You may pick and choose articles just so long as they are 15 pages. Correction 10/2/10: The journal you choose must be available in the UTEP library or its databases.

2. Each week, read at least three chapters of either the Gospel of Luke or the Gospel of Mark in the New Testament, the Book of Genesis or the book of Numbers in the Old Testament, or an equivalent amount of text in some other holy scripture of your own or another religion (e.g. from the Book of Mormon, the Qur'an, the Rig Veda, or some other holy scripture).  Your report must specify what scripture book chapter and verse you read from. You may not pick and choose for this option, but must read the section you choose, starting from the beginning of the book or chapter and reading on to the end, week by week.

3. Each week, read at least 15 pages of some founding book of your own political, ethical or religious philosophy or belief, for example, Marx's Capital, Rand's Atlas Shrugged, or some other foundational work. Your report must specify what book you read from, the author, and from what page to what page you read. You may not pick and choose for this option, but must read the book or section you choose, starting from the beginning of the book or chapter and reading on to the end, week by week.

Then, by midnight, Saturday, of each week, post a two-paragraph report, one paragraph with a summary of what you read or heard, and one paragraph of commentary, giving your opinions on what you read.

Post this via the class dropbox. Reports must be at least two good paragraphs long.
