In-Class Quizzes
There will be 15 in-class quizzes administered over the course of the semester. The quizzes will be administered each Monday morning. Each quiz will consist of 10 multiple-choice and/or short-answer questions covering lectures and readings (except for readings from Becoming a Master Student) from the previous week. Each quiz will be worth a total of 10 points.
Take-home Quizzes
There will be 12 take-home quizzes administered over the course of the semester. Each quiz will come from each chapter of Becoming a Master Student. You will complete each quiz in the book, tear out the appropriate pages, and turn them in each Monday morning Late papers will be accepted ONLY from students with an excused absence. Each quiz will be worth a total of 10 points.
Journal
Your journal is IMPORTANT. It is not space-filler for the professor. You will make at least 63 journal entries as spelled out in Becoming a Master Student during the semester. You will submit your journal to the instructional team 5 times during the semester for evaluation. You will be graded on 1) thoughtful preparation, 2) thoroughness, and, 3) evidence of critical thinking and analysis in addressing the journal questions posed.
Projects
You will complete two research projects on El Paso history. One project will constitute your mid-term exam and the other the final exam. You will be given project information and guidelines well in advance of due dates. Research for your projects will be conducted on-line and at the UTEP library. No Late papers and/or oral reports will be accepted.
IMPORTANT NOTE!
You all have access to computers at the various lab sites on campus - especially LACIT (you pay a technology fee each semester for this) so excuses such as:
I don't have a computer.... | |
I couldn't get to LACIT on time... | |
My printer broke down... | |
I don't know how to use a computer.. | |
And a whole lot of others... |
