Introduction

Bill Robertson, Ph.D. at UTEPMy name is William H. Robertson and I am currently an Associate Provost in the Provost's Office and an Associate Professor in the Teacher Education Department at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). In the Provost's Office, I focus on efforts in curriculum innovations, global programs and blended/online learning. My duties also extend to the management and oversight of Instructional Support Services (ISS) which includes ensuring that all ISS activities directed to teaching, learning and related research are aligned to advance UTEP’s commitment to student success. As an Associate Professor, my academic areas of expertise are in science education, curriculum development and technology integration in the K-12 levels. Additionally, I develop, research and teach materials related to problem-based learning and action science.

As a result of my efforts in teaching, I have received a number of awards. In 2009, I received the University of Texas Regent’s Outstanding Teaching Award as a tenure-tack faculty member, and was nominated by UTEP for the U.S. Professor of the Year Award.  Additionally, I served for three years as a Fellow for the Center for Effective Teaching and Learning (2009-2012), received the 2007 College of Education Excellence in Teaching Award, and was recognized as the 2006 Teachers for a New Era (TNE) Outstanding Performer at UTEP.

In 2008, I was selected as a Fulbright U.S. Scholar and worked for the months of July to December in Santiago, Chile at the Universidad Metropolitana de Ciencia de la Educación (UMCE) in the Department of Physics.  The Fulbright U.S. Scholar program is designed to increase mutual understanding between the United States and other countries. Scholars are expected to improve the general welfare of the world through their observations of other political, economic, educational and cultural institutions.

Previous to coming to UTEP, I was an employee at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). I have worked in science education, university coordination and computer education and training. I have expert abilities as an instructor for HTML, Dreamweaver, and Web Site Development.

I completed a Ph.D. in Multicultural Teacher and Childhood Education with an emphasis in science and technology at the University of New Mexico in 2000. I obtained a Master's degree Science Education from the University of Colorado - Boulder in 1992. I also completed a BA degree in Spanish from the University of Texas at El Paso, a BS degree in Biology from Northern Arizona University in 1987, and a BA degree in History from Duke University in 1985.

I am a long time participant and performer in skateboarding with over 35 years in the sport. As Dr. Skateboard, I maintain a Web Site that combines the best of both education and extreme sports for use in the classroom. I also enjoy traveling, hiking, running, weight lifting and golf.
