Why?
Breianna C. Russell
I find my self in this choice for theme, Abortion, because I myself am a young woman. Though some may say it is wrong, as a young woman I feel that depending on the circumstance every woman should be able to decide for herself whether or not she can/or wants to raise a child. If I were to become pregnant, personally I would take responsibility for it, however, other woman may feel differently and they have a right to choose for themselves.
As for the educational aspect, this theme has opened my eyes to many feminine health issues connected with abortion. As such, it is helping me to learn how and what options I have if I were to become pregnant. I am also learning more religious aspects to abortion that I was not previously aware of. I am not all knowing in the subject just because I am female.
Professionally, I am on track to becoming a nurse. Since abortion is very much a medical procedure/intervention, I do expect that I will come across the situation in my future nursing career. I do plan to use my career as a nurse in helping ALL people with their health issues. And this obviously includes woman and their pregnancy decisions as well. So it is most definitely going to be connected to my major in the future.
As for my civic responsibility, I have said before that woman should have their choice. Though it is seen as a community problem in El Paso, abortion is very much meant to be a private matter. It is possible that for my theme I will emphasize that the real community problem is young woman and pregnancy prevention, less so the topic of abortion, which is not singled in the category of underage pregnancy but even older woman as well.
