Research Guide: Psychology
This guide is a starting point to begin your research. It contains a brief overview of resources both in print and electronic format available at the UTEP Library.
The following books are a good source for beginning your research in looking at different topics and areas of Psychology. Handbooks also provide information in specific areas of psychology, theoretical approaches and research studies.
All these books are arranged in call number order in the Reference Department or in the Main Stacks of the Library. Some sources are now also available as electronic books in the Library’s catalog(Nugget).

Databases:
Databases are online indexes searchable on the Library’s computers or from home if you are a current UTEP student, faculty or staff. Some databases are restricted to only on campus use.
Using the following databases will direct you to articles in journals, magazines, books and newspapers. Most will have a citation which contains the article title, author, journal title, date, volume and page numbers. You can then search the Library’s online catalog(Nugget) for availability. Some databases will provide full text articles online.
Academic Search Complete (EBSCO)
A multidisciplinary literature database. Psychology is just one of the subjects covered. Other subjects covered are social sciences, arts and humanities, education, computer sciences, engineering, physics, chemistry, language and linguistics, health sciences, multicultural studies, and many more.
Database provides citations, abstracts, and some full text for international literature in the field of psychology. Other coverage includes the psychological aspects of related disciplines such as medicine, psychiatry, nursing, sociology, anthropology, business, and law.
Database provides complete full text access to peer-reviewed scholarly and scientific journals published by the American Psychological Association (APA) and several allied organizations. General psychology as well as specialized, basic, applied, clinical, and theoretical research is covered.
Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection (EBSCO)
Database
covers literature concerning psychology and human behavior. Citations include
abstracts and some include full text or links to full text.
Database provides bibliographic citations, abstracts, and full text for Elsevier Science journals. Some articles link to full text content provided by other publishers or vendors. Subject coverage includes biology, chemistry, business, mathematics, engineering, environmental science, materials science, computer science, medicine, psychology, the social sciences, and physics.
Database provides citations of journals that are published by Springer-Verlag, Birkhuser Verlag, Brill Academic, and other selected publishers on the MetaPress platform. Subject covered includes the arts and humanities, physical sciences, some engineering, business, education, law, medicine, philosophy, physics, psychology, and the social sciences.
Database provides bibliographic citations, abstracts, and full text for John Wiley & Sons, Inc. journals. Subjects covered include business, chemistry, computer science, earth science, education, engineering, law, biology, medicine, mathematics, physics, and psychology.
