next to the name of a resource indicates that it is a
licensed electronic service that UTEP subscribes to. Off-campus access (unless
otherwise specified) to that resource is available, but is restricted to current
UTEP students, staff, and faculty.

- El Paso Chamber of Commerce --
includes information on local business, economy, etc.
- El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce --
formed in response for the need for specific business training, assistance,
guidance, and mentoring for small business, specifically Hispanic business
in the El Paso region. Gives access to useful business publications.
- City of El
Paso Office of Economic Development - provides information on business
climate, infrastructure, labor force, and other data. In addition, there is
a link to an El Paso Factbook which gives useful business statistics.
- Small Business
Administration, El Paso District Office - provides free counseling,
advise and information on starting a business.
- The University of Texas at El Paso
College of Business Administration - includes information on available
employment, internship or CO-OP opportunities.
- El Paso metro.com: El Paso's News
Weekly - includes a business section that may be searched for
information on the business environment on the El Paso/Juarez border.
- Texas Workforce Commission - includes labor market information and current economic
snapshots.
- Texas Online - Information on
business programs and services, Texas business facts, and overview of the
Texas economy.

Newspapers

El Paso Times Newspaper - Click on "News archives" located on the left
sidebar for an index to articles dating from 1/1/99 to to the present.
The El Paso Public Library has a more extensive index to the newspaper. Copies of the
newspaper issues are located in the Library's Current Periodicals Department
located on the 1st floor.

Academic Universe U- Click on "News", select
"U.S. News", then select "Texas News Sources" to access
newspapers from Texas.
Government Publications
- The federal and state government publish statistical data on a variety of
business topics. A lot of the information is available online through the
"Statistical Information" Research Guide.
University Research Institutes

Institute for Policy and Economic
Development (University of Texas at El Paso) publishes reports on
the social, economic and policy research on the El Paso, Texas/Cd. Juárez,
Chihuahua metroplex. Many of these reports are available online.
Print Material
- Search the Library Catalog, NUGGET, for books dealing with the El
Paso/Juarez economy or businesses. For example, when searching NUGGET, you
may try the keyword terms "el paso and business" or "el paso
and econom*". The Reference Desk has several books on local business,
but most of the information that you will find on specific local companies
will be of directory type.
