WHAT WE DO ON OUR HOME FRONT

Observation                   Consequence                      How can this change?

Example:

Uncle changing his car’s oil, collects it in a container and makes a hole in the backyard to “bury” it.

The oil seeps through the ground contaminating the soil and possibly the groundwater reservoirs. It can interfere with operations of sewer systems.

Talk to your uncle about storing the oil in a clean plastic container with a tight lid and taking it to a collection site, such at Autozone or service stations that participate in crude oil recycling. Mention to him that it takes 42 gallons of crude oil, but only one gallon of used oil, to produce 2 ½ quarts of new, high-quality lubricating oil.
