Online resources for music enable you to locate

RILM ( Répertoire International de Littérature Musicale) is the major source for bibliographic research in music.  It  has listings of articles in journals, as well as essays and chapters in books.  The database allows keyword, subject, author, and title searching, and a full range of limiters is available to focus your search.  There is a thesaurus, and you can email citations and full text to yourself easily.  When you export a citation, you may choose the citation style you prefer (MLA, Chicago, etc.)

Grove Music Online is the online manifestation of the definitive Grove encyclopedias on various topics. You can find authoritative information about composers, works, movements and styles in music, instruments, types of compositions, and many other topics. There is also a section called "Listening to Grove Music Online" where you can listen to examples of musical concepts. For example, you could listen to an example of Counterpoint.

Naxos Music Library and Naxos Music Library: Jazz are extensive listening libraries that include excellent text resources. You can search for a composer or for a particular work and listen to it on any computer with a sound card. You may need to download the recommended software in order to hear the music.

Sheet Music Now is a library of sheet music that you can view and, in many cases, download.  For some titles, you can see only a preview, but you have to purchase the full score.  You can search for music by composer, title, instrument, or style.
