AUDIENCE

"All communication is created with a purpose and an audience in mind."

You should be accustomed to beginning a composition with a concept of what particular audience or audiences you wish to reach. You‘ll want to consider the following questions to help you analyze your audiences early in the composing process:

1. Who is my audience?

2. What does the audience already know about the subject?

3. What do I think my audience needs to know about my subject? What do I want my audience to know?

4. Of what value will awareness of my subject be to my audience?

5. How will my audience react to my subject?

6. What steps must I take to ensure that my audience will read and appreciate what I have to say?
