Designing My Annotated Bibliography:

February 23, 2010

Breianna C. Russell

How much time would you estimate it required to search, read, select and annotate each of the sources you found in the last exercise? Considering how many sources you need for the annotated bibliography, what is your time management plan for completing the assignment?

I found that in searching for the most relevant sources it took me several hours, of course I am picky when it comes to selecting my sources so that may have come into play with the fact that it took a while to select the sources I have so far. However, I believe I will be able to shorten my time spent searching for my remaining sources by being more open to the sources I come across. I have so far spent three to four hours attaining and writing about my current sources, and for each it has taken around thirty minutes to annotate. Since I am about three fourths completed I see no problem in having time to complete the assignment on time.

What is your plan for including sources from different genres in terms of variety and quantity?

Well my annotation includes two main differences in the theme I have selected, there are definitely different aspects to each group though and I hope to include all of those within my annotation. Some may include for instance, the Vatican, Pro-life organizations, Reproductive services, Hilltop Clinic, etc. And I am utilizing pamphlets as well as online documents from both local and non-local articles. As such, one of my current sources includes an article from the Vatican online search engine referring to the "Morning After Pill".

What criteria will you use in selecting or eliminating sources?

Obviously professionalism is a huge contributing factor to whether the source will be acceptable for the annotated bibliography. I have and will continue to avoid blogs and other opinionated pieces and focus more on factual articles. Medical and organized articles and reports are going to be my main source genre. As well as political and community interactions with my abortion theme.

What guidelines will you use in order to determine the credibility of online sources? other sources?

Again this goes back to professionalism, if the site or online article is nothing more than a blog or a complaint then it is obviously not a useable application to this assignment. I plan to use more educated articles from local news and medical professionals. As for online articles, it is very  much the same, instead of using documents from WebMD or such sites I have searched more on journal sites from the Google Scholarly search engine which encompasses several books and articles that pertain to abortion.

Describe your plan for including sources that counter-argue, provide historical information or data, such as surveys, facts and figures, etc.?

I have already begun looking into the pro-life side of abortion as well as my own side on the matter. Organizations such as 40 Days for Life are included in my annotation, as well as articles from the Vatican online. As for facts and figures, these are still things I must acquire in order to be most accurate in the matter.
