Hello,
I was born and raised in El Paso, Texas where I am currently working on a double concentration BFA in Graphic Design and Printmaking at The University of Texas at El Paso. Growing up, music played a huge role in my life, most of my close friends grew up playing music together while I always drew and sketched. Doing this led me to explore album art to still feel connected and productive with my friends and their music. Looking at album covers became my obsession, and the more music my friends and I found, the more artwork I was exposed to. I started researching the people behind the artwork that I loved: Joy Division's Peter Saville and Factory Records, Dead Kennedy's Winston Smith, Black Flag's Raymond Pettibon, The Screamer's Gary Panter, Sonic Youth's Mike Kelley and Gerhard Richter, Talking Head's Robert Rauschenberg, I could go on forever! This research is what inspired me to pursue a career as a graphic designer. While in my third semester of university, I took my first printmaking class and instantly fell in love with the processes and the different marks that can be made with different printmaking techniques. I find inspiration for my work all around me — while I am walking down the street and see a worn piece of cardboard with a graphic, the shapes made by paint chipping off of a car exposed to the hot southwest sun, or anything that has a visible sign of wear and use, a tactile history. When I am not thinking about textures and marks, I enjoy spending time with loved ones, going to music shows, finding new films to watch, hiking and camping at any national park and playing with my two dogs, Pancho and Balu.
