Using Finale's Instrumental Trio template (Instrumental Trio.ftm), Compose the following Three-Voice counterpoint pieces:
  1. The texture of the first piece is 1:1.
  2. This piece is to be four measures in length using quarter notes and half notes in common time. You may choose either a major or minor key.
  3. Use only chord tones. You may use chromatic harmonies, but be careful to resolve them correctly.
  4. Omit the perfect fifth in seventh chords.
  5. Each voice should be suitable as a melodic line by itself.
  6. Perfect fourths are acceptable when occurring between the upper two voices. Perfect fourths that involve the bass should resolve correctly.
  7. Include a functional (Roman numeral) analysis.
  8. Then, in the next four measures, repeat your composition, freely adding nonharmonic tones to create a contrapuntal fifth-species piece.
