IMPORTANT: If you are currently serving on a program committee and will be reviewing proposals for upcoming conferences on music theory or film music, please STOP here and do not read the rest of this page. Thank you!

When I traveled to New York City in 2007 to attend Ennio Morricone's concert at Radio City Music Hall, I had the good fortune to be invited to the Manhattan School of Music to present a lecture on Morricone's film music. If your organization is planning a film music event, and you would like me to present a lecture on Ennio Morricone as part of your event, please contact me at CHARLESL@UTEP.EDU.

Many conferences allow a thirty-minute time slot for each lecture, including five or ten minutes for questions and answers. The following lectures are available now, or will be in the near future:
  1. Musical Gesture, Modality, and Dissonance in “L’Estasi dell’Oro” from Il Buono, il Brutto, il Cattivo: Decoding Ennio Morricone’s Micro-Cell Technique
This lecture would be of great interest to music theorists, but may also be of interest to film scholars and musicologists.
  2. "Deguello," No Mercy for the Losers: The Enduring Role of the Solo Trumpet in the Soundtrack of the Old West
This lecture would be of interest to trumpet players.
  3. Somewhere between Modality and Atonality: The Superset and Subset Tetrachords in Ennio Morricone’s Score for Disclosure
This lecture would be of great interest to music theorists, but may also be of interest to film scholars and musicologists.
Thank you very much! Grazie! Ciao!
