Looking for Manuscripts of Ennio Morricone's Film Music

I need your help!

I am looking for unpublished manuscripts of film music composed by Ennio Morricone.

When I wrote my book on The Good, the Bad and the Ugly for Scarecrow Press (2004), I was not able to study a complete score for the film, like I had for my dissertation on Max Steiner's music for Now, Voyager. Those of you who have read the book (thanks, by the way) might notice a lack of depth in the score analysis portion of the book. This was due to limited resources. Maestro Morricone is understandably protective of his work. In May of 2008, however, I had the good fortune to study a manuscript of Morricone's, resulting in some very worthwhile research which has recently been submitted for publication.

If you have a manuscript of Maestro Morricone's in your possession, or you know somebody who does, please contact me at CHARLESL@UTEP.EDU! If you wish, your identity will be kept strictly confidential. Also, if you are a musician who has worked with Maestro Morricone, I would also very much like to hear from you.

Now, let me make this clear. I was fortunate enough to meet Maestro Morricone in Rome in 2003. Although he may not easily remember our meeting, I do value the acquaintanceship I have with him. I still correspond with him occasionally. Therefore, I do not intend to do, say, or write anything that might possibly be disrespectful. It is merely my intention to make others aware of his innovative compositional style and methodology through my own research and publication. Music theorists study the music of great composers to better understand the compositional process. That's what music theory is, the study of how music is composed.

Thank you very much! Grazie! Ciao!
