Curriculum Planning in Secondary Schools - Assignments

Due September 1

Assignment - In Blackboard, provide a Written Response (200 words minimum) to the Scenario “What will your teaching look like in 5 years?” Include anything you think is important to show your understanding of being an educator.

Quiz 1 - Syllabus and Class Procedures

Bring a copy of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) from your area of teaching. From the TEKS Web site, locate your content area concepts. Select only your content TEKS and copy/paste into a Word document and print them out.

Discussion - In Blackboard, provide an individual Written Response to the topic; “What is Your Metaphor For Teaching?” Your response (200 words minimum) should should not only identify the metaphor, but offer a detailed explanation.

Discussion - Provide a Written Response to the question posed within your private discussion group on the appropriate Discussion board in Blackboard. The discussions will center around TExES Standard I - The teacher designs instruction appropriate for all students that reflects an understanding of relevant content and is based on continuous and appropriate assessment.

Each person should have at least 1 major personal entry (200 words) and 2 reflective comments (50 words) from your classmates' responses. Provide comments (in your assigned groups) to other students reflections that give feedback and clarification to the initial entry. This discussion will close by 9 PM MST on September 29.

Discussion - In WebCT, provide an individual Written Response (300 words minimum) in the discussion area entitled “TExES Standard II ” Your response should reflect your personal understandings of how the teacher creates a classroom environment of respect and rapport that fosters a positive climate for learning, equity, and excellence. This will be a public area for the entire class to view. This discussion will close by 9 PM MST on October 6.

Introduce Cultural Portrait Activity - PDF Available

Discussion - Provide a Written Response to the question posed within your group to which you are assigned on the new private Discussion topic in WebCT. The discussion will be entitled “TExES Standard IV ” and center on the ways in which the teacher fulfills professional roles and responsibilities and adheres to legal and ethical requirements of the profession.

Each person should have at least 1 major personal entry (200 words) and 2 reflective comments (50 words) from your classmates' responses . Provide comments (in your assigned private discussion groups) to other students' reflections that give feedback and clarification to the initial entry. This discussion will close by 9 PM MST on November 3.

Assignment - Provide a Written Response to the Cultural Portrait activity, in which you provide a narrative on an interview with a person who you believe is culturally different from you. You should present both a portrait of the person you interview as well as identifying the cultural contexts central to their perspective. Also, reflect on why you identified this individual as culturally different from yourself in the first place, and how that was manifested after the interview.

Assignment - In a quality narrative, compare and contrast Bloom’s Taxonomy (as outlined in the notes on Constructivism) with the Six Facets of Understanding from Wiggins and McTighe. Cite examples from your field of study as well your experiences in your internship.

Assignment - Final Product and Poster Presentation

You should plan to submit the final product through the Assignments area in Blackboard as an electronic file in Word. You should also plan to present your poster session in class.
